From the Desk of the Vice Chancellor,
Education is not only a fundamental right for the citizens but also a powerful tool for bringing equity in the society. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru has said: “If you educate a woman you educate a whole family, Women empowered means Mother India empowered.”If women who contribute half of the population are empowered, India will be an empowered nation and sovereign country. Women have abundant potential which needs to be tapped. Education is a powerful tool which can be rightly used to bring out the hidden potential of women to strengthen the national economy.
In order to promote women empowerment, it is necessary to create an environment that will allow women to participate in educational programs and share the benefits. I am proud to say that Mother Teresa Women’s University situated on the laps of the Majestic Princess of Hills, Kodaikanal, acts as a powerful catalyst in women empowerment through quality education.
The University’s curriculum is well-designed with the inputs of the various stakeholders and enriched with Outcome Based/Employability/Entrepreneurship/Soft Skill Courses which are relevant to meet the requirements of industry 4.0. Besides, the University is equipped with the State of Art Research facilities and provides a conducive ambiance for academic and research pursuits. MTWU has widespread its strong wings at Madurai, Chennai, and Coimbatore with its Research and Extension Centres for encompassing woman aspirants from all over the State. The University also enables the students, rural women and the destitute to shine as employers rather than being employees, through its Entrepreneurship Training Centre at Pallapatti, Dindigul. The University facilitates placements for the students through more than 70 placement drives and has signed more than 50 MoUs for Academic collaborations with national and international Institutions and Industries and is proud to have 15 patents.
Women like men need to be proactive in the process of lifelong learning. That is true empowerment. The time has come to shift focus from “women for development” to “women in development”. This quality change is quite essential for building a sustainable nation. I strongly believe that Mother Teresa Women’s University with its intellectually well-equipped passionate faculties and administrative staff will enable all its student-stakeholders to become sustainable nation builders and strong decision and policy makers who will make India a “Vishwaguru”.
