ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Physics was started in the year 2002 with M.Sc. Physics with Specialization in Astrophysics. M.Sc. with Specialization in Materials Science, M.Phil. Physics and Ph.D. programme were introduced in the year 2005.

M.Sc Programme
M.Sc. Physics with specialization in Astrophysics was started in the year 2002. In the year 2005 M.Sc. Physics with specialization in Materials Science was introduced. The selection is based on the marks scored in their B.Sc. degree. Most of the Astrophysics experiments were done at Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Kodaikanal. Our Department had MoU with Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Kodaikanal during the year (2004-2009). Our M.Sc., students are given first hand experience in using advanced research level equipments during their practical classes. The regular seminars and meetings were conducted in the department by the experts to motivate our students to pursue higher education in research level. Students pursue M.Sc project from various institutions/Universities such as IGCAR, Kalpakkam, Vainu Bappu Observatory, Kavalur, IIA, Kodaikanal, IIA, Bangalore, IISc Bangalore, Radio Astronomy Centre, Ooty, Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Tirunelveli, Space Physics Laboratory, VSSC, Tirvandrum, Mahathma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Central Electrochemical Research Institute, Karaikudi during the final semester. Most of our students have participated in International/National conference/seminars/workshops. Every year some of our students participate in summer schools organized by various national institutes and universities such as, Bangalore, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Kodaikanal, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, IGCAR, Kalpakkam, IUCAA, Pune etc., Few students spent two months at National Laboratories for Summer project during their first year.
M.Phil. Programme
Our Department offers regular M.Phil Programme (July – April). The selection is based on an entrance exam and an interview. The students can opt for the various specialization offered in the department. Most of our students work has been published in Peer Reviewed International Journals.
Ph. D. Programme
The Ph.D. Programme is offered in the department from 2005. The students can choose their own specialization. We have good experimental and computer facilities available for the research scholars.
