ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Library and Information Science was established in the year 2000 to meet the challenges of emerging scenario in the 21st century and to exploit the new opportunities in the field of Library and Information science. The Department has the pride of having dedicated faculty with research experience and excellent infrastructure for the M.Lib.I.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes. The courses offered by the Department are well updated with an institutional need based curriculum. The Students are trained by the faculty members and external experts in the emerging technologies like Digital Libraries, Institutional Repositories, Content Management systems, Knowledge Management, E-Learning and Web Technologies etc., with practical relevance to meet the current needs of the information industry and libraries. The Department arranges the programmes with updated curriculum to meet the present needs of government, academic, corporate libraries and information industries to equip the students for employability. The programmes offered by the department provide a solid foundation in core and emerging areas of Library and Information Science and trains students to become independent researchers.

The Department is adequately equipped with state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure for students offering hands-on experience. The National Knowledge Network (NKN) lab system is a precious gift to the students for their knowledge and skill enhancement.
